The American Legion, Department of Indiana is no Longer a Partner in the Big 4

This decision did not come lightly and was made after several attempts to first rectify the problem. At our first Big 4 meeting last year, the Department made it clear that we must approve any decision brought forth to the Big 4 before it was made public with our name attached.

On several occasions since that meeting, this requirement has not been met. For example:

-A pamphlet supporting specific bills was handed out at the Veterans Legislative Day with the Department’s name and emblem on it without the Departments approval.

-Someone testified in committee that The American Legion, Department of Indiana supported HB 1076 without Department’s knowledge. The Department does not support this bill.

-The American Legion, Department of Indiana was not made aware that the Big 4’s Priority 2, exemption of property tax, had been rewritten to only include the active-duty military. The Department does not support this rewrite as it should include members of the Reserves and National Guard.

American Legion, Department of Indiana has removed our name and support of the Big 4.

Respectfully Submitted,

Jim Daube

Commander

American Legion

Department of Indiana
