Please note, if you have received a previous award the maximum lifetime amount an applicant may receive from the fund is two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500.00), unless a higher amount is approved by the commission.
Why did IDVA create this program?
Every year, the Military Family Relief Fund (“MFRF”) Team receives dire telephone calls from veterans and their families because they do not have the available monies to satisfy essential household expenses for their children and/or to afford a holiday meal. These are usually families that have just enough income to satisfy their day-to-day expenses but have no additional funds to provide for their family at the holidays. This leaves families in the position of paying for increased household expenses for their children or paying their utility bills, rent/mortgage, car payment, etc. The MFRF has seen these families elect to satisfy additional holiday expenses for their children and allow the bills to go unpaid, thereby causing disconnection potential, the incurring of late fees, possible foreclosure/eviction issues, and obtaining pay day loans.
